Full catering tray of rice

We are sorry for your loss. If you have been asked to arrange food for a funeral reception, a repast after the service or a celebration of life, this page explains how our catering works so you can make a decision quickly. If you would rather just talk it through, call us at (540) 372-7755.

How quickly we can help

All of our catering needs at least 24 hours notice: orders are placed and confirmed at least 24 hours before delivery or pickup. Funerals are often arranged with only a few days' notice, so please call as soon as you know the date and an approximate number of guests, and we will help you plan from there.

Food that is easy to serve and holds well

A repast usually runs an hour or two, often in a church hall or a family home, with guests arriving after the service or burial. The food needs to be familiar, filling and simple for volunteers to set out. These trays work well:

Setting out the food

If the reception is in a church hall or at home, it helps to have a few things ready: a table for the trays, serving spoons, plates, napkins and a way to keep hot food warm. We include plates, utensils, napkins, serving spoons and chafing dishes with every catering order, so you only need the table. If you would rather not handle any of this, setup and wait staff are available on request and priced with your quote. As a general food-safety guide, perishable food should not sit out at room temperature for more than two hours.

If a few people offer to bring a dish, that is welcome and common. Let our trays cover the main meal and let friends and neighbors add desserts or side dishes. It keeps the family from having to coordinate a full potluck during a difficult week.

Working with funeral homes and churches

Funeral directors and church hospitality teams often coordinate the reception on a family's behalf. We are happy to take the order from them directly. We deliver to churches, funeral homes, halls and family homes up to 50 miles from our restaurant on Southpoint Parkway, or the family can pick up. Delivery is $10 for addresses within 20 miles of the restaurant, $20 for 20 to 40 miles and $30 for 40 to 50 miles. Drop-off is standard. Setup, wait staff and other services are available on request and priced with your quote.

Placing the order

Orders placed less than 48 hours before your event are paid in full when you order. With more notice, your order starts as a quote: we review it, call you to go over it and adjust anything needed, then charge your card. Call (540) 372-7755, or send the date, location and approximate headcount through our quote form and we will get back to you. The full list of trays and prices is on the catering menu. For a vegetarian family or guests, see our vegetarian options. If a church or community group is organizing the meal, our church and community catering page may also help.
